DGLA Supports Domestic Partner Benefits at DARTby Pete(Dallas) With a decision pending within the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) agency, the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance (DGLA) reaffirms its support of the DART proposal for employee domestic partnership benefits. DGLA proudly stands with community leaders and corporate entities that recognize the rich gifts and diversity of the workplace. It is imperative that DART stay competitive to attract the best workforce in Dallas and its participating cities. The DART policy is under internal management review. A decision regarding the updated benefit package should be made by DART officials within the next sixty to ninety days. DGLA played a significant role in passage of the City of Dallas Non-Discrimination Ordinance that protects Dallas residents in employment, housing, and public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity. DGLA also assisted in the city's formulation of its Domestic Partner Benefit Plan. Fairness and equality are the cornerstones of DGLA's work as an organization, and those principles guided the organization in assisting with the successful implementation of the existing employment non-discrimination policy at DART. Today DGLA is working with Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials to extend domestic partner benefits to DART employees. “We look forward to continuing the dialogue with DART officials on corporate equality,” said Erin Moore; DGLA President. “The decision will be based not only on fairness and equality issues, but also on sound budget and business concerns,” noted DGLA board member Pete Webb. "We hope that DART will agree that you can make sound business decisions in extending corporate equality to all employees." The Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance (DGLA) has been the premier local voice for LGBT civil rights in the Dallas metropolitan area since 1977. The mission of The Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance is to advocate for full civil rights, dignity, and self-respect for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals by educating, creating social and political change, and fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, in order to achieve the full participation of all people in society.
